The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini is due for release Q2 2010 and provides an effective alternative to many current handsets on the market. The unit is full of functionality and features and provides an emphatic level of technology encased within a compact casing measuring only 83 mm x 50 mm wide and 16 mm thick. The unit is touted at weighing approximately 88 g in weight and will include an impressive touch screen as well as a vast array of additional functionality and internet access.
The aforementioned touch screen is 2.5 inches in size and TFT in nature, whilst offering the ability to display up to 16 million colours within the confines of a 240 x 320 pixel screen size. A scratch resistant surface is also included to ensure longevity of the screen whilst an accelerometer sensor is also provided for automatic image orientation. The handset will utilise the Timescape user interface as its primary means of navigation around the features.
The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini provides internet access, via its HSDPA and Wi Fi connections as well as providing class 10 versions of GPRS and EDGE in conjunction with microUSB and Bluetooth. Internal memory is set at 128 MB, although most packages will include a 2 GB card that can be utilised within the Transflash or microSD card slot. The same slot can be utilised to increase memory capacity up to 16 GB if desired. The handset utilises a Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz central processing unit in addition to version 1.6 of the android operating system.
The phone also includes a 5.0 megapixel camera which incorporates auto focus and an LED flash for illumination, as standard. The camera operates at 2560 x 1920 pixels and provides effective imagery as well as the ability to reference the taken imagery by location, a feature known as geo-tagging. In addition VGA quality video can be taken with this camera at 30 frames per second whilst the included video light provides effective illumination when utilising the video feature.
The unit comes with a stereo FM radio with RDS capabilities as well as several games and also includes an MP4/MP3 media player, which supports all major audio and video file formats. Satellite navigation is provided, which comes with A-GPS support. In addition a variety of web services are included such as Google search, maps and Gmail as well as YouTube, calendar and Google talk.
The Sony XPERIA X10 Mini is an impressively stylish mobile phone, which offers an impressive level of technology within a compact body. As an alternative to the larger X10 from Sony, this handset offers a similar level of technology albeit on a smaller scale as the name would suggest.
