Atlanta, USA, September 3, 2001. Today ART, Advanced Recognition Technologies Inc., a global leader in natural Human User Interface technologies, announced a new step in its successful cooperation with Optimay GmbH, a leading developer of wireless software technology and subsidiary of Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A). Beginning immediately, its breakthrough smARTspeak NG will be adding a new dimension to Agere’s General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)-enabled platform design for wireless phones by combining established voice-enabled features such as name and continuous digit dialing with new speaker-independent digit dialing functions.
The innovative smARTspeak NG is one of the first products to successfully combine all the familiar voice-recognition functions usually found on either speaker-independent or speaker-dependent systems. Especially designed for the tight processing-power environment of today’s mass-market cellular handsets, ART’s all-in-one bundle gives mobile phone manufacturers a critical differentiating factor for increasing their share of global markets with minimal effort and investments -- thus making it perfect for Agere’s GSM/GPRS platform design.
"Voice-controlled functions are becoming more of a standard convenience feature in today’s wireless phones, especially as regulations for using mobile phones in cars get more strict and safety becomes more of an issue," said Arno Filbig, marketing director with Agere Systems. "Our long-standing cooperation with ART enables us to offer our customers a complete GSM/GPRS platform design with highly advanced pre-integrated software solutions to satisfy this market requirement."
"We are confident that Agere’s global customers will be delighted with the comprehensive range of voice functionality that the revolutionary smARTspeak NG now brings to the Agere platform," said Yakov Shulman, ART’s VP Sales. "By enhancing their offering of world-class technologies, it helps power them into today’s highly competitive marketplace."
More About smARTspeak NG
The latest of ART’s market-proven technologies, smARTspeak NG’s fully integrated voice recognition algorithm is among the world’s first comprehensive next generation solutions. Offering true speaker independent continuous digit dialing, with the additional capability to adapt to each user’s voice, the smARTspeak NG UI provides complete voice activation experiences currently available for deployment across the full range of mass-market mobile devices.
The bundle's specific technology means that instead of having to choose between speaker-dependent or independent features, OEMs can now simply deploy the one embedded software on all new cellular handsets, and customize whichever functions are required.
Combining a decade of ART’s award-winning technologies, smARTspeak NG‘s leading-edge developments offer voice-enabled features such as name dialing, continuous digit dialing, menu navigation and device control. It also includes ART’s latest innovation: a Speaker Independent Digit Dialing function with adaptation possibility for heavily accented International English - or any other language spoken with dialect. This simple 30-second adaptation allows further personalization according to the needs of each user.
