Terabeam Uses Key Component of ADC's Singularit.e to Bill for Broadband Communications Services
MINNEAPOLIS - May 30, 2001 - Singl.eView(TM) Flexible Convergent Billing Platform to Help Terabeam with Time-to-Market Advantage to Rapidly Deploy Products and Services
ADC (Nasdaq:ADCT: www.adc.com) a leading global supplier of fibre optics, network equipment, software and integration services for broadband multiservice networks, today announced that Terabeam Networks, Inc., a pioneer in fibreless broadband IP services, has implemented the Singl.eView(TM) real-time convergent billing platform. Singl.eView is a component of Singularit.e(TM), ADC's best-in-class operations support system (OSS) suite for real-time customer contact and service management in a broadband network. Terabeam will use Singl.eView's solution to reduce churn, speed time-to-market, provide flexible rating and deliver accurate and detailed bills to its business customers.
Seattle-based Terabeam provides broadband Internet protocol (IP) connectivity that is quick to provision, highly scalable and cost-effective (in part because it does not require a licence spectrum). The company is addressing one of the fastest-growing segments of the Internet infrastructure market. Terabeam's Fibreless Optic Network System sends data through the air using invisible light. The data travels at gigabits-per-second speeds -- thousands of times faster than many current "last-mile solutions". This technology breaks what is considered to be the last significant bottleneck in accessing the Internet and other high-speed communications where data is slowed when it is carried between local and wide-area networks.
Terabeam selected Singl.eView because it provides a cost-effective, flexible and quick time-to-market solution.
"We chose Singl.eView because it will allow us to deliver flexible, real-time, accurate billing and rating capabilities that will support our clients' current and future IP, data and telecom billing needs," said Alex Meyer, Terabeam's IT vice president. "Singl.eView's rapid implementation will give us a competitive edge we need to gain presence rapidly in the U.S. and later in international markets."
Singl.eView is an integral part of Singularit.e, ADC's suite of products, services, and enterprise application integration (EAI) connectors that allow CSPs to build open, end-to-end OSSs to compete more effectively in the broadband era. Singularit.e automates key OSS processes by combining real-time advanced customer management, convergent billing, service fulfilment, and service assurance solutions with integration services from leading consulting companies.
"We are pleased with Terabeam's selection of Singl.eView and excited to be working with a leader in the broadband IP connectivity market," said Larry Barker, president of ADC's Software Systems Division. "Singl.eView will provide the open architecture platform Terabeam needs to design and build out its unique network infrastructure and operations."
About Terabeam
Terabeam provides businesses with true high-speed connectivity to the Internet or between their office locations. At speeds up to one gigabit per second (the equivalent of 630 T-1 lines), Terabeam delivers the connectivity of fibre optics, the ease of IP/Ethernet LANs and the delivery times of a wireless technology by sending invisible light primarily through office windows. It's fibre optics without the fibre. No digging. No roof rights. Depending upon their situation, customers order various levels of service from 5, 10, 100 megabits per second to 1 gigabit per second.
Terabeam provides fibreless broadband IP services over the first and last mile link of the nation's fibre optic communications networks. Using its own Fibreless Optical technology, the company creates a network of invisible light over a metropolitan area to connect local area networks (LANs) and the nation's wide-area networks (WANs) at gigabit speeds. Terabeam is providing its service to customers in Seattle now. It will begin to provide service to the core business centre of Denver this summer, and to four more cities by the end of this year.
