Location based mobile services in Japan
Added: (Tue Jun 14 2005)
Location based mobile services (LBS) are a natural application of mobile phones both for private consumers as well as businesses. In Japan, you'll be able to watch live baseball games on your mobile, this season. But in an animated version.
This means that avatars take the place of players and action is transformed, play by play into a cartoon like environment. This includes the roar of the crowd, scoreboard, the pitch, the strike and trajectory of the ball.
This isn't a game, by the way, but a cartoon version of a live game, produced by Craftmax's Digital Stadium and broadcast to DoCoMo 3G mobiles.Location based services are already very developed in Japan, where about 20% of all mobile phones have GPS installed, and all operators use location determined by triangulation for commercial services.
The present reports give a broad overview of location based services in Japan both for consumer markets as well as for commercial business-to-business markets (e.g. for fleet management, enterprise resource management etc).
The report is directed to mobile operators, investment bankers, telecom equipment manufacturers, semiconductor manufacturers, mobile services providers, and other professionals who need to be up-to-date on the state of the art of location based mobile services and be aware of future trends to expect.
