Pressbox (Press Release) - Transcomm’s UK Mobitex network has been chosen alongside ControlForce’s innovative ‘m-Go™’ technology by the Kwik-Fit Group to upgrade their existing mobile systems and to implement mobile solutions into those areas of the business that still involve paper based processes. The complete solution will provide Kwik-Fit with a strategic mobile infrastructure for the whole group that is adaptable to grow with their business.

The Kwik-Fit Mobile Tyre Service business, involving 190 vans and the fitting of up to 2000 tyres a day, will benefit first from the implementation of the robust in-van solution. It will ensure quality of data and reliable communication between the mobile workforce and regional control centres. The functionality of m-Go™ supports both scheduled and unscheduled work carried out by fitters and the differing hardware that Kwik-Fit require, this includes enabling fitters to print information remotely.

The Mobitex network will carry the seamless flow of information between the mobile workers and regional control centres. Keith Faulkner, Product Manager commented “The UK Mobitex network is ideal for the m-Go™ system. Mobitex is an open standard for wireless data communications, supplied and supported by Ericsson, and is used world-wide. The ‘packet switched network’ handles data in small packets of information that do not require a dedicated channel, so it avoids congestion and ensures rapid delivery. The network covers over 93% of the population, and the connection is always on. Kwik-Fits work data is passed securely, reliably and quickly ”.

Ann Shankland, Managing Director of Kwik-Fit Mobile added “The improved mobile system will drastically reduce the amount of time senior management is currently having to spend rectifying the problems with existing systems, whilst delivering the benefits associated with improved productivity, efficiency and data quality”.

The project for Kwik-Fit Mobile Tyre Service will be operational from September 2001 with both Silver Shield and Kwik-Fit HomeTune to be implemented thereafter. ControlForce’s Managing Director, Edward Burt, reiterated “I am confident the m-Go™ technology together with the Mobitex network will allow Kwik-Fit to realise the benefits of one mobile solution to meet all of their mobile business requirements. Through m-Go’s™ configurability it will also stand up to tomorrow’s requirements thus providing the competitive advantage”.
