Avaya Marks 1st Anniversary with Business HQ Award from Singapore Economic Development Board

Added: (Tue Oct 02 2001)

Reinforces its Commitment in Singapore with announcement of investments of more than S$49 million per annum by end of September 2003

SINGAPORE – October 2, 2001 – Avaya (NYSE: AV), a global leader in corporate networking solutions and services, today marked its 1st Anniversary in Singapore with a Business Headquarters (BHQ) award from the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).

To qualify for development and expansion incentives under the BHQ programme, Avaya Singapore will invest more than S$49 million per year from now to the end of September 2003 to upgrade its services infrastructure. These services include consulting and systems integration, corporate support, networking planning and design, regional business development and management, regional operations and project management, regional technical support, research and development, logistics and warehousing, regional training and procurement and sales.

The planned investment will enable Avaya to expand its scope of corporate and regional activities and responsibilities for the Asia Pacific region.

The EDB’s Headquarters Programme aims to encourage multi-national companies to base their regional/business headquarters hub in Singapore. It also recognises these companies’ efforts in creating high-value jobs, and in sharing technology, management and marketing expertise.

Mark Leigh, President, Avaya Asia Pacific said: “We are honoured to be accepted into the EDB’s BHQ programme and remain committed to contributing to Singapore’s success as Asia’s premier information and communications hub. We are already an active participant in helping Singapore transform into a knowledge-based economy through our knowledge transfer programme. An effort made possible with the presence of our R&D arm in Singapore and the company’s ownership of best-in-class technologies in relevant fields such as eCRM, data networking and virtual private networking.”

Ko Kheng Hwa, Managing Director, EDB who was present to officiate the award ceremony said: “Avaya’s significant Business HQ in Singapore is in line with EDB’s strategy to encourage multinational companies to locate and expand their range of regional corporate functions in Singapore. Avaya’s web of activities in Singapore is a good example of how a vibrant enterprise ecosystem here has worked well for them. Avaya can be assured of the government’s fullest support as the company expands its Asia-Pacific business through Singapore.”

As Avaya Asia Pacific marks its 1st anniversary with the BHQ award, it remains positive about the region despite the current economic slowdown. As a global company offering cutting-edge convergence communication applications and solutions, Avaya is committed to helping customers succeed in reducing expenses, a critical factor in doing business today, gain rapid returns on their investment through improved productivity and efficient use of their resources and to better communicate with their customers.

Another customer focused initiative is a planned 23-city roadshow which will showcase Avaya's latest MultiService Networking Infrastructure Solutions in Asia Pacific countries. The technology to be highlighted made its debut in the US in mid-September 2001, thus demonstrating Avaya's commitment to shorten the lead-time between launches in the US and their availabilty in Asia Pacific. The roadshow will begin in Tokyo on 15 October, reaching its last stop of Jakarta on 27 November 2001.

Avaya currently operates in 25 cities in 15 countries across Asia Pacific and has numerous customer implementations of CRM, converged network and multi-service infrastructure, and hosted services for companies across a wide range of industries.
