Antepo promotes Instant Messaging as the ultimate communication medium

Added: (Tue Mar 27 2001)

Antepo today announces a new release of its Instant Messaging platform. This version offers enhanced navigability, multi-channel access (SMS, WAP, Web) and, above all, full interoperability with dominant Instant Messaging standards.

Instant Messaging has proved to be a highly successful application on the Internet. It is forecasted to become the killer app for wireless devices by most observers: International Data Communication predicts IM will overrun email by 2002. Antepo had anticipated this long-term tendency by launching a wireless IM as early as this summer. Its new version incorporates unique and advanced features: seamless wireless/wireline mixity (SMS, WAP, Web), cross-platform architecture (Java, XML) and interoperability with dominant Instant Messaging standards.

Antepo's two-way Instant Messaging engine is a carrier-class application geared towards leading Wireless Network Operators and Internet Service Providers eager to cater to their user base with robust, traffic-enhancing and cost-effective value-added services. It allows a full range of mobile devices (PCs, phones, PDAs) to tap into network-based instant communication, presence notification and file transfers through SMS, WAP and Web channels, while ensuring full interoperability with existing third-party IM services. Antepo's IM has been developed in observance of key market trends in the telecommunications industry: explosion in SMS traffic, careful but growing adoption of WAP, industry re-focus on GPRS deployment in preparation for 3G.

"Our market vision is clear: only communication applications may enjoy a high and sustainable growth in the mobile space, since terminals are mostly designed for short and telling content, not for heavy publishing. Instant messaging appeals to the end-user's real interests in a personal and timely fashion", mentions Max Seguineau, President and Chief Executive Officer. "It is also crucial to offer a software solution package that leverages SMS, as this channel still enjoys amazing traffic growth and adoption rates in the telecommunications industry today. However, once GPRS is fully deployed and always-on connectivity becomes mainstream, we firmly believe that our GPRS-compliant interface will increasingly help carriers turn their users to WAP, which offers better functionality."

Mr Seguineau further explains that "a substantial fraction of carriers' subscribers might already be using third-party IM services. If a carrier builds its own proprietary system, chances are few users will adopt it, given the high switching cost of losing contact lists and settings; if it partners with one major IM player, subscribers using the other systems will feel deprived. Antepo's application solves this headache by allowing users to synchronize all their existing IM accounts through a single multi-access interface."

While extremely easy to handle from the end-user’s standpoint, this product was also conceived to be rapidly interfaced with companies' existing architectures and protocols. Antepo commits itself to providing a hassle-free environment to its customers as well as ensuring a short deployment time of its private-label applications (2 to 4 weeks).
