Added: (Wed Oct 31 2001)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Bala Cynwyd, PA - October 30, 2001 - ATX, a leading integrated communications provider with approximately 40,000 business customers and 400,000 consumer subscribers, recently participated in Philadelphia Cares Day, an annual citywide community service event involving over 8,000 volunteers who help clean up schools throughout Greater Philadelphia. ATX was founded in Philadelphia in 1985, and the company still has its headquarters and Network Operations Center in the city. In total, ATX employs more than 500 people in the Philadelphia area - one of the largest tech employees in the region.

ATX volunteers, along with their friends and family, helped school children and other area volunteers at William C. Longstreth Elementary School to clean up and repaint their faculty parking lot and playground. The group also assisted in cleaning and reorganizing the school's library so that children could more easily find the books in their proper locations.

"I was so pleased to see all our volunteers actively taking part to help restore our parking lot and library, both of which desperately needed help," explains Ernestine Marlow, a 5th grade teacher at Longstreth and supervisor for the Philadelphia Cares site. "It was great to have ATX and other volunteers at our school - I know everyone will appreciate the work they did."

This is the third consecutive year ATX has fielded a team of volunteers to assist in Philadelphia Cares Day. The company also participates in numerous other philanthropic pursuits, including a fundraising effort that earned them the "Best New Campaign" Award from the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia Cares mobilizes people to address the critical social, educational, and environmental needs of the Greater Philadelphia region through volunteer action. The organization coordinates volunteers to participate in community service projects including tutoring children, feeding the hungry, assisting people living with disabilities, revitalizing gardens, and visiting the elderly. Each Philadelphia Cares Day, more than 100 Philadelphia public schools are prepared for the school year as volunteers refurbish classrooms, restore playgrounds, and create inviting green spaces on school grounds.
