Pressbox (Press Release) - The Odeon UK cinema chain have agreed to a natiional cinema release for independent UK movie "Jesus The Curry King" made by first time writer-director Marc John of the Aylesbury Film Company.

Bypassing the London movie establishment the Aylesbury Film Company are also distributing the film itself using new digital technology as opposed to expensive celluloid film negative.

Their digital platform, a sub-company named Quantum Digital, will then expand into a company in it own right, servicing other films that may wish to opt for the less expensive route of digital releasing.

Indeed Quantum Digital is already in discussions with LucasFilm Ltd to digitally release "Star Wars Episode Two" in summer 2002. "Jesus The Curry King" will serve as the test model to prove the reliability of the technology.

Digital distribution is widely anticipated as a crossroads for the film industry at large. Aylesbury Film Company and Quantum Digital are set to lead the way in the UK.

"Jesus The Curry King" is released across the UK at dates and venues soon to be announced by the Odeon UK. This will be the first motion picture in the world to be digitally released to a national cinema chain.

The Media Division of the Department for Culture, Media & Sport are also considering proposals to co-sponsor the ambitious Quantum Digital enterprise, which is poised to become the market leader in digital cinema in the UK and Europe.

Says Marc John "With both our direct approach to the Odeon and the digital platform we will use to distribute the film we are achieving something truly unprecedented."
