New REVO In-Car DAB Digital Radio Device Brings Digital Radio To The Motoring Masses

Added: (Fri Oct 08 2004)

Revo Digital Ltd are pleased to announce the forthcoming launch of their innovative REVO In-Car DAB Digital Radio product.

Thanks to REVO’s unique modular design, you can listen to more than 160 digital radio stations just about anywhere you like… in your car, at home or whilst on the move.

REVO will make its first public appearance at the MPH 04 show at London’s Earls Court on Thursday the 18th of November 2004 before officially going on sale in the UK on the 1st of December 2004.

In-Car DAB Digital Radio For the Masses

Unlike the current crop of in-car digital radios, REVO’s complementary design allows it to be used in conjunction with the vehicle’s existing audio system, rather than in place of it.

REVO is unique; unlike its rivals it can be installed in any type of vehicle, irrespective of whether it has a DIN size aperture in the centre console or not.

Revo Digital’s Managing Director David Baxter explains the reasoning behind the creation of REVO: “The DAB Digital Radio market has long been crying out for an in-car digital radio product that can be used in any make and model of car. The current batch of car stereo sized DAB radios conform to the outmoded DIN size chassis standard and simply can’t be installed into the vast majority of new and used cars, where non-standard size integrated audio systems are now the norm. The launch of REVO will finally open up the world of DAB Digital Radio to the majority of the UK’s motoring public.”

In-Car, Home or Mobile:
The Only DAB Digital Radio You Will Ever Need

The philosophy behind REVO is that it should be the centre of the user’s digital radio world, the only DAB Digital Radio that he/she will ever need to buy. With this in mind, Revo Digital have developed two optional add-ons that allow REVO to be used out-with its normal in-car environment.

Home Sweet Home:

The REVO DOCK allows REVO to be connected to an audio system such as a home hi-fi or ‘boombox’ type product. The REVO DOCK unit is made from cast aluminium and has the appearance of a piece of high-end audio equipment, right down to the inclusion of a digital out connection for superior sound quality.

REVO DOCK includes an infrared remote control and unique REVO Micro DAB Antenna, the DAB industry’s first custom designed extendable antenna. REVO is a silver telescopic antenna free zone. REVO DOCK will be available at launch (on the 1st of December) and carries a suggested retail price of £49.95 inc. Vat.

Carry A Tune:

The REVO ‘GO’ package allows REVO to be used as a portable DAB digital radio. The kit comprises an integrated re-chargeable battery pack and pair of high quality ‘ear bud’ headphones. REVO GO is due for release in February 2005 at a suggested retail price of £49.95 inc. Vat.

Connecting REVO

REVO connects to the vehicle’s existing audio system using hardware supplied and can be positioned in a number of locations inside the vehicle. The REVO unit itself can slide in and out of its powered mounting cradle in seconds for easy removal, allowing it to be used between multiple vehicles (by purchasing additional car kits) or in other environments, with the aid of the optional REVO home and mobile kits.

REVO can be DIY installed or alternatively users can take advantage of our fixed priced nationwide installation service. For a fixed rate of £49.95 a Revo approved mobile installer will carry out the work.

Styling

Revo Digital’s David Baxter explains why REVO’s styling was so important: “Consumers are very particular about what they put in their cars; with this in mind it was vitally important that REVO looked right in any type of vehicle. We avoided garish colours or off-the-wall styling and went for a subtly modern design with a simple stain chrome and piano black finish. We have used only the highest quality materials and the result is a product that looks at home in even the most expensive of vehicle interiors.”

REVO: In Tune With The Car

REVO has been thoughtfully designed to ensure that it functions perfectly in an in-car situation.

The user interface was specifically designed to enable users to access all functions with ease and simplicity, making REVO a joy to use while on-the-move.

Particular attention has also been paid to the way REVO’s LCD screen functions in an automotive environment. For reasons of safety, legibility and ease of use, a standard off-the-shelf LCD couldn’t be used.

The use of a custom designed ‘Ice White’ backlit LCD screen means that REVO can be easily viewed in a wide variety of lighting conditions and at acute viewing angles. REVO is the first automotive consumer electronics product to feature this particular LCD design.

Designed and Developed in the UK

REVO has been designed and developed entirely in the UK and features a custom version of Frontier Silicon’s Venice DAB module, the world’s best selling DAB chipset.

REVO is priced at £199.95 including Vat.

A nationwide installation service is available at a fixed price of £49.95 inc. Vat.

REVO is available for pre-order from the 1st of October 2004 exclusively from www.revo.co.uk. Full retail distribution begins on the 1st of December 2004.
