National Award Scheme Recognises Innovative Users of Technology
Added: (Tue Oct 05 2004)
SustainIT's eWell-Being Awards are the UK's only national awards that identify and promote the social and environmental benefits of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Specifically, the Awards aim to:
• Showcase best practice to stimulate the application of technology for social and environmental benefit
• Examine and promote emerging technologies, where they have the potential to provide environmental and social benefits
• Raise awareness of the beneficial and inspirational uses of ICT.
Now in their third year, the eWell-Being Awards are supported by BT and attract category sponsorship from leading organisations including Vodafone and Brother. For the 2004 Awards SustainIT is proud to welcome The Guardian as national media partner.
The categories for the 2004 awards are as follows:
Digital Inclusion - Supported by BT, this category seeks voluntary sector* projects that use ICT to enhance access to services and opportunities for individuals and groups.
eGovernment - Open to national, regional and local government, this category, sponsored by IDEA, focuses on projects which use ICT to deliver better public services.
Environmental Efficiency - Sponsored by Brother, this category seeks projects which either make use of ICT to reduce environmental impacts, or which are focused on reducing the negative environmental impacts of ICT equipment. Projects might focus on areas such as waste, energy, or water.
Mobility - Sponsored by Local Transport Today, this category is for projects which use ICT to reduce the negative impacts of transport. This could be achieved through teleworking, improved provision of information or enhanced transport management.
Wireless - Sponsored by Vodafone, this category focuses on projects that deliver societal benefits through the use of wireless technology.
