ABS Pumps Backs Collaborative Commerce from Scala

Industrial heavyweight invests in Scala's recently-launched iScala Data Exchange Server to support sales drive and improve customer care

London, 17 May 2001: Industrial heavyweight ABS Pumps, a company in the international engineering group Cardo, is investing in an IT infrastructure that will bring immediate benefit to its 2000-strong workforce and guarantee effective support for its long-term e-business strategy.

“We are now taking serious looks at what needs to be put in place in order to have an e-business system that is robust enough to become an integral part of our daily trading, no matter what demands are placed on it internally or externally,” says Jerker Jacobson, Administrative Director at Cardo Pump AB.

The implementation will be in two phases, with an internal transaction system, for example, between sales and production companies, being set up in the initial stage. To facilitate this, the iScala Data Exchange Server will automatically send purchase orders and deal with invoices according to parameters set by ABS. The second phase will see the rollout of the automated transaction system to external partners, suppliers and customers.

“As soon as we saw the developments Scala has been making with its e-business products we knew we could use it in order to reach our goals," continues Jacobson. "The Data Exchange Server will take care of a huge bulk of our administration and this means we can move our most valuable assets - our staff - onto driving sales and improving customer care, while at the same time reduce costs.”

ABS Pumps has been using Scala's backoffice management system since 1994 and currently has 12 installations across Europe and in America, with further installations scheduled in for this year. The company also plans to implement Scala's service order management module at all sites.

“Key reasons for implementing IT systems include supporting business processes and improving efficiency, but along with this, companies have to consider whether their investment will continue to be effective as technology and business needs progress,” says Björn Andersson, SVP of Scala's Nordic Region. “ABS Pumps' latest investment in Scala's technology confirms our predictions of the way business processes are moving forward. Companies will be insisting their IT supplier can make significant contribution in not only saving money for the enterprise, but by offering a way of collaborating with partners and customers in whichever way industry demands at the time. We look forward to supporting ABS Pumps with their plans for the future.”
