Winds hit Houston golf comp

Added: (Mon Apr 06 2009)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Lee Westwood would have been cursing the weather gods yesterday (Thursday, April 2nd) at the Houston Open.

The British number one was in the groove after reaching four-under par by the ninth hole, when play was suspended in the first round.

Organisers plan to get the event underway again today, with golfers starting from where they finished off on day one.

Aside from Westwood as the two-stroke leader, his countryman Greg Owen also looked in good shape, reaching one-under by the 11th hole.

Padraig Harrington of Wilson Staff was on even-par after seven holes – ahead of the tournament the reigning US PGA and Open champion revealed he is aiming to hit top form in time for next week's US Masters.

Harrington said: "The idea is when you're building your schedule I go to peak for the major, but you're never going to complain if it happens to be this week as well, and that's the way I feel about it."
