Added: (Tue Feb 26 2002)
Pressbox (Press Release) -
This Spring, Forest Enterprise's purpose built trails at Coed-y-Brenin near Dolgellau in North Wales have been chosen for a leading international ‘Fat Tyre Festival’ that promises to be the best celebration for fat tyre riding yet!
The programme for the weekend of 20-21 April includes a host of non-competitive cycling activities for all abilities - from families to fanatics on familiar and new trails. Saturday sees the 11km and 20km rides for beginners while Sunday's main event is a 50km 'challenge' ride for enthusiasts. The marshalled and marked route includes a breathtaking 5000 feet of climbing and descending and equally breathtaking views of Snowdonia on the latest of the challenging purpose-built trails.
For spectators and participants alike, there will also be trick, technique, and maintenance demonstrations by professionals from the Giant / Helly Hansen and Halfords' Bike Hut teams, who will also act as route guides. The Coed y Brenin visitor centre cafe will be open with trade stands displaying the latest bikes and ‘must- have' accessories.
Forest Enterprise sports specialist Dafydd Davies said, “The trails around Coed y Brenin enjoy a legendary, worldwide reputation amongst mountain bikers. This festival is a great coup and will bring valuable business to the area in terms of tourism, as well as offering local people a great opportunity to enjoy their woods - whether as spectators or participants.”
Regular marshal posts, secure Masterlock kit storage, finishers medal and a bike wash and Weldtite oil-up after the ride are all included in the £5 Saturday / £8 Sunday registration fee.
