St Ledger Betting Update; Ladbrokes St Leger – Doncaster with the bookmakers making Frozen Fire thei
Added: (Wed Sep 10 2008)
Sir Michael Stoute, who has never won the St Leger, will be hoping to end his hoodoo with three entered at this stage (Conduit, Doctor Freemantle & Warringah).
The race is a Group 1 contest for three year-old entire colts and fillies, where the majority will be tackling this extreme distance for the first time.
A staying pedigree is always important as well as looking at that season's Classics, in particular the Epsom Derby as a lot of horses that ran well in that often go for the St Leger.
However, the key race in recent years for horses on route to run in this is the Great Voltigeur at York's Ebor Meeting. Run two to three weeks earlier this is a recognised trial and in the last 10 years the St Leger winner has run in that York race seven times, with three horses winning both.
The past ten years have seen the favourite in the betting winning an impressive eight runnings of the Doncaster race so be sure not to over look the market leader when assessing the race.
The trainers to have on your side are Saeed Bin Suroor and Aiden O'Brien who have won the race six times between them in the last 10 years - three times each.
