Record Attendance For Season Finale At Chester Races

Chester, 28th September 2009 – Chester Races are delighted to announce record attendance figures for their season finale. The event, which took place on Saturday 26th September, was attended by a bumper crowd of over 19,000 people, a 7% increase on last year’s event. This marks the end of a successful season of horse racing at Chester, with attendances for the whole season up by 6%.
In an action-packed race card, Peter Evans completed his Chester season with his 8th winner of the season in the 5th race, the Innospec Handicap Stakes. This saw his horse, the 20-1 shot Desert Dreamer, claim a new course record. The highlight of the day’s events was the sportingbet.com stakes. Won by Mutamaashi, this was broadcast live on Channel 4.
Among the crowd were a host of celebrities, including 20 members of the cast of TV’s Hollyoaks, who enjoyed the hospitality of Chester’s exclusive Paddock.
Chester Races is believed to be the oldest British horse racing venue, with race meets dating back to the sixteenth century. Situated on the banks of the River Dee, the course offers patrons one of the most modern and well-equipped race courses in the country. With a host of stylish bars and restaurants, it is one of the most popular racing hospitality venues in the country.
Richard Thomas, Chief Executive for Chester Race Company Ltd, commented on the success of the 2009 horse racing calendar by saying:
