FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 4, 2005 – East Lansing, Michigan

From across the Midwest and beyond, participants came. They emigrated from Wisconsin, Illinois and even as far as Virginia, while others traveled from within the state Michigan to the city of East Lansing, the former home and base of operations for all delegates. There were arrivals by air, by land, and even by sea; and although the means to travel to Jolly Road were different, the reason for the sudden and temporary population spike was the same – the second annual 574 Memorial Fantasy Football Draft. In a beautifully decorated one-bedroom apartment, complete with an elegant makeshift podium, full-sized draft board, heavily-armed study quarters and one giant NFL-worthy war room, ten football fanatics drafted elite gridiron stars for 16 rounds. As anticipated by all entrants and recommended by expert analysts around the United States, Ladainian Tomlinson, the running back from the San Diego Chargers, was drafted with the first overall pick; this selection fell to Mike McCoy of Ann Arbor, the only rookie fantasy football participant. Last year's champion, Patrick Plachta of Kohler, Wisconsin, had a list of demands that resembled those of a cadre of insane bank robbers, in size only, of course. Among the demands were the right to occupy the central seat in the room and to be allowed extended time for his selections, a demand that pushed the predicted draft length of four hours to an extended four and one half hours. Tensions ran high, as they always do, evident through the effects from the consumption of numerous beers and cigarettes, and by the ever-present verbal fireworks that exploded throughout the day. Upon completion of the much-anticipated event, the drafters unanimously agreed that the host, Lawrence Noren, was the proud new owner of the worst team. At the end of the day, it was clear that the event was an unqualified success and the 2005 – 2006 football season promises to be a great one.
