Italian ski champ secures world cup victory - with a little help from Araldite

Added: (Wed Feb 22 2006)

A gold medal for Italian slalom champion Giorgio Rocca followed a quick fix with Araldite® Adhesives – the world conquering skier turned to Araldite after his favourite ski boots cracked under the intense pressure at the Men’s World Cup event at Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

The boots were specially designed to mould securely around his feet at 1/2 a size shorter than his normal shoes, making ski manoeuvres easier. A run in a brand new pair proved uncomfortable, with potentially worrying implications for Rocca’s performance, so emergency action was needed to repair his old favourites before the second and final leg of the competition – and a win was clinched!

The boots play an important part in the skier’s performance, even more than the ski itself, as they transfer commands from the skier to the ski. It is usual for the inner shoe of the boot to be cut close to the foot contours, to save space yet allow for good blood circulation.

The multipurpose Araldite® Adhesive used for Rocca’s repair has excellent bonding strength, perfect for withstanding the physical demands made on the boots – and providing proof that its easy to apply, fast cure resin can be relied upon in the most critical of situations.
