It is a Roller Revival

Added: (Wed Oct 06 2004)

Pressbox (Press Release) - (Vancouver, BC)- Old school roller-skates are making a massive come back. Jam skating (break dancing on skates), Aggressive Roller-Skating and Roller Derby are some of the roller sports fueling the return of quad roller skates over inline skates.

Jam skating is one of the hottest new trends in contemporary roller-skating throughout the USA. Jam skating is a type of competitive dance skating that inherited components from break dancing, hip-hop culture, gymnastics and roller disco. It is popular with American youth, especially in Florida and California. Organized local, state and national competitions are rapidly gaining in popularity as competitors, some of them sponsored by leading roller skate brands, push the limits of what can be done and invent new, creative moves.

Aggressive Roller-Skating is budding in skate-parks across the continent as the new underground extreme sport. Once quite popular in Europe, extreme roller-skating is the ancestor of extreme inline skating. The discipline is, however, quite different from aggressive inline skating; the subtle yet important differences in hardware allow for different tricks and altogether different style. The first aggressive roller-skating competition on American soil in 15 years is being held this October at California’s famous skating facility Woodward West. This competition is part of a larger event called The Monsters of Roll Oct 14-17 2004.

Roller Derby is back for another spin. This female dominated sport has it all: banked racing tracks, hot pants, full contact and fish nets. Organized Roller Derby teams and leagues are popping up everywhere across the USA, banked tracks are once more being built to accommodate the growing demand and matches are rapidly gaining in popularity.

All of these new and exciting ways to skate are rubbing off on the casual recreational skater. Classic four wheelers are increasingly appearing in the media, on the boardwalks and skate paths across North America and Europe, replacing inline skates. Times may change but the great things always seem to come back in style.
