IWAS World Wheelchair and Amputee Games 2009
September, 2009, Bangalore :The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation in association with the Paralympic Committee of India is proud to announce the IWAS 4th World Games from 22nd November to 2nd December 2009 in Bangalore, India.
This was officially announced by Minister of Sports Shri Goolihatti Shekar at a press conference held at Kanteerva stadium on 7th September,2009.
These games in Bangalore will feature 10 competitive events and a demonstration Game with over 1000 athletes from over 62 countries participating. Following the signing of the contract between the Paralympic Committee of India and IWASF (International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation) in London, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has initiated the process of venue selection, cultural events for the city, Opening Closing ceremonies etc.
The launch of the mascot called BINGO and the information book was held on 26th February, 2009 and attended by the Minister of Sports, Shri Goolihatti Shekar, Minister for Child and Women Welfare Shri Narendra Swamy, ex-Member of Parliament Rao Indirajit Singh and Mr.Kapil Dev, who is the ambassador to the Games.
The Government of Karnataka has assured all support and cooperation to the IWAS World Games that are being held in India for the very first time and promises to be a path breaking event which will put the city of Bangalore on the sporting map of India.
Besides the government, an event of this magnitude should reflect the spirit and the active participation of young, passionate and enthusiastic volunteers. Come, support and be part of a sporting spectacle that will see world class disabled athletes competing for top honours in the spirit of true sportsmanship.
