How Do Land Based Slot Machines Work?

When slot machines first started out they were controlled by mechanisms and moving parts within the machine which controlled the spinning reels. These days modern technology has taken over and they are now managed by a random number generator within the computer chip inside the slot machine.
The microchip in the machine controls when the reels stop spinning and will stop each reel depending on the number that is randomly generated, which then show whether you have won or not.
Each slot machine has a pay table which shows how much you can win for each of the winning combinations created by the different symbols. There is also a payout percentage contained with every machine which defines how much the machine is expected to pay out from the bets it receives. For example, if over a period of time a machine receives $100 then it will be expected to pay out a percentage of that amount, and that percentage is decided by the random number generator.
A random number will be generated for each of the reels within the machine, it could be 3 or 5, and this number will then be divided by either 16, 32, 64, 128, 256 or 512. The remainder after the division will be the stop number placed against the reel. There is a lookup table which lists which symbol relates to each number, so once the stop number has been decided it is compared to the lookup table to find which symbol will then show on that reel. And the most important part which you’ll all know is that you need all the symbols to match on all reels in order to win that jackpot!
Online slot machines work in exactly the same way as land-based casino’s as they are all controlled by this random number generator within a computer chip. The only difference is that playing in an actually casino means you get to pull the lever rather than click a button to kick off the process.
