Greyhounds Betting Update; Nottingham with the bookmakers making Cleenas Lady their 14/1 favourite

Invariably the best one-off race of the season, tonight’s Select Stakes which heads up Sky Sports eight race live card from Nottingham, is arguably the best renewal for many a year with a case to be argued for all six runners.
The fairytale result, of course, would be an unprecedented third victory for Cleenas Lady, and the coveted red jacket draw is certainly a massive boost for the Matt Dartnall trained bitch. While I don’t think she’ll quite do it, her price is simply too big and she’s put forward as a saver to Barnfield On Air, who to this observer is now almost back to his best and gets the main selection. So much was expected of Sam Poots’ runner in 2008 after his numerous big race wins last year that a semi final place in the Derby was something of a disappointment, but after three recent victories at Hove he looks ready to win a major prize. Charlie Lister is always to be respected on the these nights and both of runners Farloe Reason and Ninja Jamie are more than good enough on the formbook, although their recent absences from the track might just count against them.
Flying Winner should be as good as weighed in for the Stayers race (9.25) as she bids to make it ten wins on the spin, but for forecast or each way backers I’d suggest Head Iton Paddy, who has hit a purple patch, including the breaking of the six bend track record at Perry Barr recently. A 2008 race record which has seen him out of the first two only four times in twenty one starts further advertises his chances.
I take course specialist Cuil Magic to claim a modest looking 680m final (8.0) to add to his recent Peterborough Cesarewitch victory, while win machine Perrys Tango again looks the one in the Sprint final (8.35) to take his sequence to seven wins in his last eight starts.
The Guys and Dolls final at 8.15 looks a belter with multiple Nottingham winner Vigorous Pat getting a narrow vote to oust Sunderland Oaks winner Lochbo Meg, although a reverse forecast on the pair should ensure all angles are covered.
Veteran Sir Alf is still running well and can account for eclipse winner Rev Counter in the Sky opener at 7.40.
