Female Kitesurf Instructors Open New School

Added: (Tue Jun 16 2009)

Aberdovey, Wales (Coastriders) June 2009 - This year two female instructors decided to setup their own kitesurf school in mid Wales. Why? To encourage more women to participate in the exhilarating, male orientated sport of kitesurfing.

Coastriders in Aberdovey, Wales are the only female instructor school in the UK where women can come along and feel comfortable about learning how to kitesurf. This extreme, eco-friendly sport can taken anywhere in the world and to taken to whatever level you choose. Cruising along the water, big air jumps or wave riding, it really is a very versatile sport and a fantastic way to escape and unwind from everyday life.

Liesa Smith “I’ve been kiting for just over 4 years now and although I was one of the very few women on the water it didn’t put me off at all. I’ve been involved in a lot of different sports and nothing compares to kitesurfing, it’s my passion. I just love just cruising along the water without the sound of an engine and I can challenge myself to the next level each time I go out on the water. Over the years women kept approaching me to teach them and I soon realised there was a big gap in kitesurfing for women, so Coastriders was created.”

Coastriders courses start from just a one hour powerkite taster right through to a full on 3 day kitesurf course and with Aberdovey’s miles of never ending beach and safe shallow lagoons it’s one of the most scenic places in the world to learn. In addition to this Coastriders also organise fully catered women only activity breaks which include hiking and biking around the Snowdonia area, with a powerkite taster thrown in.
