Euro 2008 Betting Update; Greece v Spain with the bookmakers making Spain their 4/5 favourites
Added: (Wed Jun 18 2008)
Pressbox (Press Release) -
Is this a meeting between the best and worst sides at Euro 2008? Holland and France, for different reasons, may have something to say about that, but the gulf in class between these two sides is immense.
Thatís why itís impossible to overlook Spain. Even if coach Luis Aragones makes multiple changes, the Spanish should have far too much for a Greek side that appears lacking in quality all over the pitch. Marco van Basten made nine changes and the Dutch ran out 2-0 winners over Romania, who had everything to play for. So itís far from unreasonable to expect an altered but motivated Spain beat a Greece lacking in ability and with nothing to play for. A price of 8/11 is worth taking but more speculative punters should consider Spain on the Asian handicap. Much like the Dutch, Spain are a side that has developed a winning habit and wants to prolong their victorious streak. Against a side thatís look decidedly short of confidence and mental strength so far, a two- or three-goal winning margin would be no surprise. Thatís why we fancy the Spanish on the handicap. Spain to win both halves at 7/4 is a worthwhile alternative. We expect them to take control early because
The problem with the goalscorers markets is that both David Villa (6/4 to score anytime) and Fernando Torres (also 6/4) Ė on fire in the tournament so far Ė may be rested. Either would be worth backing should they start so check line-ups.
2pts Spain -0.75-goal start on the Asian handicap 41/40
