Pressbox (Press Release) - city Slickers are the new adrenaline junkies...
The jobs market is shocking at the moment for workers in the financial sector and the outlook is grim, with the Centre for Economics and Business Research forecasting a loss of 20,000 City jobs this year. It is a plight summarised by a Lehman employee: “I’ve got no job, I’ll get no bonus, my stock is worthless, and I’m out in the job market at the worst time in living memory.”
So what can you do when faced with this situation? Can’t get a job, can’t bear another episode of Doctor Phil, and you have finally fixed the broken toilet flush and all of the other irritating jobs that you just never had time to do before. You are bored. Dangerously bored.
Well many ex city workers faced with this prospect are coming up with a solution thanks to a career break company called Xtreme Gap. They have decided to persue the life of an adrenaline junkie, at least for the short term, and really get out there and LIVE. In fact, there really has never been a better time to do it, with mortgage rates at a minimum, the housing rental market strong and their job hunting prospects dire, taking a time out to travel is a very good option.
Xtreme Gap offer packages in Thailand and South Africa that make your pulse race and also provide personal development through adventure sport activities. Such as Micro light piloting above the Kruger national park, Diving with Bullsharks every day on a Divemaster course (now there is an idea for a bull market). Some have chosen to train in the Thai National sport of Muay Thai, whilst living on a tropical island, their stay culminating in a fight in front of hundreds of spectators.
After 12 weeks of these types of activities, they will return feeling fitter, healthier and have lifted their spirits ready to get back on with their professional life’s. More importantly they will have turned the “worst time in living memory” into the best time of their lives.
