Brothers in Marathon effort for children’s wishes

Added: (Thu Apr 09 2009)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Brothers Kevin and Adrian Whittingham are getting the support of two of Bournemouth’s biggest employers as they prepare for this year’s Flora London Marathon.
They’re raising funds for Bournemouth-based Round Table Children’s Wish and are running in honour of their father Ged, 58, who is battling a brain tumour.
Kevin, 32, an account opening specialist at J.P. Morgan, said: “This will be my second marathon and it’s wonderful to be able to share it with my brother. We spur each other on, talk about injuries and do some training runs together. We’re running for charity and we’re running to make Dad proud.
“Work has been incredibly supportive – in fact J.P. Morgan has sponsored all the vests for the Round Table Children’s Wish runners.”
The brothers, who both live in Charminster, have been raising funds through PlayStation tournaments with friends and cake sales at their workplaces.
Adrian, 28, a customer service worker for Nationwide, said: “We’re not competing against each other – I only started running last year so this is a real challenge for me. The training has been hard but I’m looking forward to the day.”
Round Table Children’s Wish grants wishes for children aged three to 17 with life-threatening illnesses. Recent wishes include meeting Katherine Jenkins, a surprise visit from a much-missed friend flown in from Australia and a visit to see the magic of the Northern Lights in Sweden.

This year’s Flora London Marathon takes place on April 26. To sponsor Kevin and Adrian visit www.justgiving.com/whittinghams or call Round Table Children’s Wish on 01202 514515.
