Betting Update; Tottenham v Slavia Prague with the bookmakers making Tottenham their 3/10 favourites
Added: (Thu Feb 21 2008)
Slavia Prague were hammered 7-0 on their last visit to North London in October, and not many will be tipping them to take the spoils at White Hart Lane this time around.
Spurs are just 2-9 in places to win in 90 minutes following their 2-1 victory in Prague last week, and it’s not hard to see why considering the hot streak Juande Ramos’ side are on.
They’ve only lost one of their last eight games – an FA Cup reverse at Old Trafford - and have given themselves an outside chance of a top six finish this season after being in the drop zone before Ramos took the reigns. But even the Spanish magician hasn’t found the cure to shore up the Lillywhites’ woeful backline, and the goals market is usually the first port of call when Spurs play at home.
Berbatov and co have scored more home league goals than any other side this season, but have only kept one clean sheet at the Lane since November – and that was against a toothless Sunderland side.
The Czechs are no mugs in front of goal either, banging in 27 league goals before their winter break and have found the target at Ajax and Sevilla in Europe – the latter when Ramos was still in charge. Add into the mix the visitors need to score twice to even have a chance of victory, and Canbet’s 49/50 on over 2.5/ 3 goals looks generous.
Given the valueless match odds, punters just looking to get on Spurs might have a better night in the handicaps. A number of firms are 5/6 Spurs minus a goal and when Berbatov and Keane are in the mood they can make that price look silly. They have scored in every UEFA Cup game this season, and the star duo have notched in all but one of those. As long as they are not rested for Sunday’s Carling Cup Final, that trend should continue this evening.
Recommended Bets - 2pts Spurs -1 goal (5/6)
Recommended Bets - 1pt Over 2.5/3 goals (49/50)
