Manhattan, NY. March 15, 2001. Awesome feats of strength, explosive raw energy and merciless demonstrations of power will go on display 1,300 feet above Gotham City on March 29th when The Top of the World 'NYC Big Apple Grapple II' comes to The Top of the World Trade Center Observatories, 2 World Trade Center, 107th floor. Weigh-in and registration will begin at 10 AM and start time is 1:00 PM. Spectators have the opportunity to watch the exciting event for the price of admission: $13.50 for adults, $11.00 for seniors and teens 13-17 years old, $6.75 for children 6-12 years old; kids under 5 are free.
The event consists of nine weight classes for men, including two Masters 50+ years and over and three classes for women. There will also be team competition which is broken down by the Boroughs, Long Island, New York State, out-of-state and out-of-country. A point tally will determine the winning team. Unique 'Top of the World' 3" gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded and custom designed event T-shirts will be given, free, to contestants. The day’s strongest male and female will once again, be crowned NY's 'King and Queen of Arms'. The event is sponsored by The Marine Manifold Corporation of East Farmingdale, NY.
Bobby Buttafuoco from Rockville Centre, Long Island, is the undefeated NYAWA Super Heavy Weight Champion for 13 years, but was beaten last year -- in a first match of best-of-3 matches -- for the NY 'King of Arms' title. Mike Selearis from Elmhurst, Queens is a Newtown High School science teacher and wrestling coach who has claimed a few national and world titles. Selearis beat Buttafuoco at Madison Square Garden; however, the title was never declared official, because, the remaining two matches was postponed for a later date, but, was never consumated. Thus, as a technicality, Buttafuoco retained the title. Bobby is also Joey Buttafuoco's brother, who made national headlines with his involvement with Amy Fisher. "Everyone will be focused on this rematch, in addition to others who will challenge for the Ultimate NY 'King of Arms' title," said Gene Camp, founder and President of the 24-year-old New York Arm Wrestling Association {NYAWA}. "The best Pros are coming from all over the country to compete. These arm wrestlers are serious, tough, 'hard nosed' pros. Challengers are expected to compete from as far away as Korea," he added.
