ALL WAYS FORWARD - ON TIME, EVERY TIME, WORLDWIDE

International logistics specialists All Ways Forward have commenced the loading at Felixstowe Dock of vehicles competing in the 2001 Inca Trail. This prestigious event takes place in October and November 2001, where six South American countries (Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Uruguay) will host a 13,500 mile rally for classic cars and modern 4x4s.

Cheltenham-based All Ways Forward has been contracted by the Inca Trail organisers to undertake the shipping and logistical demands of the event for its UK and European competitors. This includes the shipping/freight forwarding of vehicles for the two-way journey between Europe and South America. Over the past decade All Ways Forward has developed its reputation in the most demanding of business sectors. These include Formula 1 and the World Rally Championship where delivery worldwide of vehicle parts, television editing suites, exhibition facilities etc. is required at a precise time to a specific destination.

As part of the Inca Trail arrangements, All Ways Forward guarantee to repatriate to its port of origin any vehicle, in its entirety, that is unable to complete the 22,500-kilometre event. This represents a major logistical task as Martin McDonald, Business Development Manager for AWF, explains. "All Ways Forward will provide a complete transportation/recovery service throughout the 55 day event. With such unforgiving terrain and dramatic climatic variations we face a stimulating logistical and operational challenge. All 22,500 kilometres of the event will be monitored from our headquarters in Cheltenham and we will rescue any competitor vehicle - and many are worth a small fortune - that is unable to reach the finish in Rio de Janeiro. From the high altitudes of the Bolivian Andes to the starkness of the Atacama desert - the driest place on earth - All Ways Forward guarantee to recover and repatriate."

Running Of The Event

The Classic Reliability Trial is a motor competition run under the International Sporting Code of the FIA. Competitors have to follow a set route and pass through control points. There are Medal Sections, which have to be completed within a time allowance, and Regularity Sections, in which you must precisely maintain a set speed. On the 4x4 Adventure Drive, the Regulations are much simpler and more relaxed. Participants are requested to sign in and out at the start and end of each day, and into and out of each Wilderness Section. 4x4 participants who wish to make their own arrangements for any part of the event are free to do so, provided they inform the organisers.

Vehicle

The Classic Reliability Trial is open to any cars of any age up to 1976. Certain modifications to adapt it for an arduos event are permitted. There are different classes, depending on the age and type of the vehicle; older cars are given a slightly easier route. For the 4x4 Adventure Drive any type of vehicle can be entered - it doesn't even have to be a 4x4, so long as it's robust and has reasonable ground clearance.

Roads

The route is approximately 22,500km (13,500 miles) in length. Most of this distance is either on asphalt or good gravel roads, on which it is often possible to cover very large daily distances. On most days, there are regularity or competitive road sections for the classic cars, usually on reasonable quality gravel. 4x4 participants' Wilderness Sections use jeep roads, but in all cases there are optional. There is no hardcore offroading.
