A Century of Rugby League Goes On-Line
Added: (Fri Feb 01 2002)
Pressbox (Press Release) -
A website dedicated solely to the history of Rugby League in Great Britain has been launched - just in time for the major rounds of the historic Challenge Cup.
RL1895 - The Great Britain Rugby League Hall Of Fame (www.RL1895.com) is now on-line.
RL1895 writer, historian & web designer Sean Fagan says: "Ensuring that a documented heritage of the game is widely accessible, and of such scope as to provide worthwhile content, will be of significant benefit to preserve and develop the stature that Great Britain Rugby League holds within the community - both at home and worldwide."
"The game has a long and rich history that many younger fans of the game are crying out to be made aware of - using a modern medium in the Net will achieve that. History and tradition are the foundations of the game as it enters the 21st Century."
"We launched an Australian RL history web site in May 2001 - and found we were soon inundated with enquiries from England. They were all asking for more content on the game there. Hence, the momentum to build RL1895 accelerated very quickly."
RL1895.com provides :
* A Hall Of Fame dedicated to the best players over the game's history in England
* A history section that looks at the birth of the game of rugby (from a League perspective), the arrival of the Northern Union (RL) in 1895, the first tourists from New Zealand and Australia and other defining moments in the game.
* A on-line database linking all the individual RL club histories from across the internet.
* Detailed reviews of recently released books and videos on Rugby League.
"The site will continue to develop over the coming months. RL1895 is the brother of our Australian site - RL1908.com (http://www.rl1908.com). RL1895 will soon be of a similar scale."
