2000 Minutes of School Football may not happen

One of Hungary's most unusual school-sports events is
about to run out of sponsorship money in its ninth
year: a 2000-minute football game, held day and night
over a period of over 30 hours between different
grades of children from two schools.

Eight years in a row Budapest's Kispesti Deák Ferenc
Grammar School has invited the Fonyódi Mátyás Kirárly
Grammar School from the Balaton-Lake region for the
record-challenging games - always the date plus one
minute. So in 1998 there was a 1999-minute game, in
1999 a 2000-minute game, and last year a 2001-minute
game.

For the first time since the event began, the schools
have run out of sponsors, after previous sponsors
Tesco pulled out. They need nets for the goals, food
for the spectators, and lights for the night-playing.
Money would also be welcome.

Any corporate sponsors should contact Viktor Nemeth on
wyco@maffia.hu if they are interested in getting
involved in what will probably be a game scheduled for
next spring.
