the age of modern delicatensens

It must be at least 25 years- if not more and at this particular place possibly 30- years not days and not months
I can’t really remember just when I was last in the sea in England – in fact now that I think about it back in 1979 when we spent a week at Bournemouth did I take a dip in the sea.
So long apparently so and the opportunity to swim in the English Channel wasn’t possible. And yet the nearest seaside resort isn’t that far from here only about a 1 ½ hour train journey-
Today changed all that today Wednesday the 10th august- I find myself with my father at the coastal seaside resort of Exmouth- but the name rings a bell- it was here or in this vicinity way back in the early 1970’s that I came here and the beach has exceeded all my expectations.
It wasn’t just a clean beach or clean sand with no rubbish. A little seaweed both in and out of the shore but that is to be expected but I would never have believed how clean -the municipality has kept it so clean.
It was fabulous and the water was also clean- no oil or suage water or chemical waste.
I am sure the government has clamped down on companies for dumping chemical or biological or human waste into the water so that people can come here and enjoy themselves.
In the 1970’s I came here as a little boy and used to ran into the water well not run for it was too cold but I certainly spend many hours playing and surfing and in general having a wonderful time and getting sunburnt.
I actually spent time in travelling the UK and having gone so far decided while on the south coast- in Devon and Dorset- would make doubly sure to take a dip in the sea-
The seaside is to be enjoyed by everyone- even those who can’t swim but the current is much stronger than expected and even those who are good swimmers have to be careful. Even those on rubber boats and dingys and inflatable mattresses have to take double care.
I wanted to stay longer- but we only had 2 hours in this car park or was it 3 and failing to return back can incur a fine of up to £50. The amount of people coming here wasn’t as great as I would have expected- they weren’t crammed into every nook or cranny or available space but what I did see was something I had been expecting- obesity- in people- eating too much and not burning off the calories. And it can affect us all- from the young to the old.
People weren’t born like that not all- but living in the modern century with the quantity of sugar and fat and meat isn’t surprising and this was all down by the seaside with swimming costumes or shorts and trousers or shirts. People used to play and shout and scream and surf- and all this was part of the fun at the seaside.
The sun didn’t always shine her yellow face for there was a great deal of cloud covering and the wind blew and blew and blew-
So I went out of the water which was difficult for it was cold enough getting in- in the first place and my father went in for a dip. So I dried off and allowed the sun and wind to dry me off but not 20 minutes later it was time for a second dip a little easier than the first time. I wanted to remain in longer but the wind began to blow a little harder and the sun only appeared once in a while- but all in all- such a wonderful time- all down at the sea
