Pressbox (Press Release) - Why ‘Nobody’ writes the new homeless website…

‘’Hello-I’m a Nobody.’’ is the stark message which opens a new online diary on the topic of homelessness, written by two homeless people and launched this week.

Diary of a Nobody is the brainchild of Brian Ashford-Pink 49 and Andy Bling 19, both of whom have direct experience of living on the streets. It is the first initiative of their newly formed C.A.H.L. (Campaign Against Homelessness Legislation). According to the website, C.A.H.L. aims to ‘stand up for every street person’s right to be treated as a human being, to be fed and to be helped off the streets. In the diary, Brian and Andy claim from personal experience that this is not currently happening and that the official government figures for homelessness are highly underestimated. They also feel that the voices of actual homeless people are the ones least heard on this much talked about topic.

According to Brian and Andy the idea to start the site came about after having services withdrawn from them by a Brighton daycentre because ‘they didn’t drink enough’. As well as sharing their own experiences of living rough in Brighton, London and Northampton, they hope that the dairy will become a focal point for gathering information and opinions about the real situation of homeless people around the country. ‘’I know officialdom won’t be happy with some of the things we have to say, ‘’ says Brian ’’But the truth is many homeless people won’t either.’’

Brian and Andy stress that the site is open for everyone who has a perspective on the issue to have their say.‘’As people in an ongoing homelessness situation ourselves, uploading and maintaining the site has been a challenge but we are determined to keep this important forum going. Our hope is that out of the variety of opinions and comments by us and others will come a more truthful overview of the homeless situation then is currently available or encouraged.
Big Dreams for two ‘’nobodies’’!
