Using Timber in Your Kitchen

Pressbox (Press Release) - Timber has been used as an external and internal building material for many years.

Timber has been used as an external and internal building material for many years. It is durable, strong and looks beautiful when stained or veneered. Painting it means that those people who dislike the timber look can use it in a variety of applications and still have the colour scheme of their dreams. In kitchens, timber can be used for cupboards, doors and counter tops. You can use real timber, or timber laminates.

While timber is long lasting and looks beautiful, using it on your bench tops requires special care. Bench tops are most likely to get moisture and food spilled on them and this can adversely affect timber. Making sure the surface is resealed every year will help guard against this problem. You cannot cut up vegetable or meat on your timber bench top without inflicting scratches from the knife, so using a cutting board is important. If the surface is cut or scratched it will compromise the seal. Timber also shows signs of heat stress when hot pots and pans are left on it.

This can be overcome by using pot stands, but you may prefer to change that timber top to a tougher surface and keep the beauty of timber for vertical surfaces.

Sick of renovating? Look online for a wealth of financing options, such as fixed rate home loan if you're thinking of buying a new home. Read the fine print carefully to ensure that you get the best home loan rate.
