The modern day vampire

Added: (Sat May 10 2008)

The belief in vampires- the “Undead”- in countries like Romania is still rife even now at the start of the twenty-first century. Take the case of Petre Toma, a man who died at the age of 70, an ex-teacher and a pillar of the community. He was buried in the village of Marotinul de Sus in Romania. In 2005, some weeks after Toma was buried, Gheorghe Marinescu and five of his relatives exhumed the body. They put a pitchfork through the chest and tore out the heart, after staking the body and sprinkling garlic on it they reburied the mutilated corpse. This was done because Gheorghe Marinescu and his relatives believed they were being visited by Petre Toma during the hours of darkness so that he could drink their blood. The men were sentenced to six months in jail for desecrating a corpse, but this is not an unusual occurrence. Many peasants believe in vampires in Romania and often taken action against the corpses they believe rise from the grave to stalk the night. The blood is the life. In a new book titled “Darkness Crawls Apace” released by Booklocker (http://www.booklocker.com/books/3425.html)
the folklore of vampirism is explored in detail. Details about the book can be found at the authors website .
