Monsters Go Green this Halloween

Added: (Wed Oct 29 2008)

Pressbox (Press Release) - A Cheshire based entrepreneur has setup GreenWellyMonster.com, inviting members of the public to become Green Welly Monsters and help create, experience and live “The Good Life” first hand at the UK’s first ever crowd-sourced eco-village.

Cheshire, UK – 29 October 2008 – GreenWellyMonster.com has been setup by UK based, Terri Crowther, so individuals and families can join and take part in a crowd-sourced eco-project, creating and experiencing “The Good Life” at an eco-village to be located in Cheshire.

Founder of Green Welly Monster, Terri Crowther, said, “We need as many people as possible to join to make this work. Everyone is welcome - city-slickers, tree-huggers, kids. You don’t even need to live in the UK; tourists can enjoy a holiday in the English countryside doing something different.”

She added, “The plan for the eco-village is to be as self-sufficient and environmentally friendly as possible, growing our own food, keeping our own animals, building eco-huts to stay in, using renewable energy, recycling, composting and collecting rain water.”

Members are able to take part in the Green Welly Monster community online, putting forward their own ideas towards the creation of the eco-village.

Green Welly Monsters will be given a plot of land for use during their membership to grow their own organic veggies and herbs, a fruit tree of their choice to plant, an animal to name (for the younger members), involvement in all the eco-projects, a pair of green wellies, a membership certificate, unlimited daily visits and a number of nights stay at the eco-village.

There are various types of membership available at a special introductory price, ranging from £140 for one year and 7 nights stay at the eco-village (Pea Green), up to £1000 for a lifetime membership with 50 nights stay at the eco-village (Evergreen). Memberships can also be bought as unique gift experiences and children are half price.

“I think a lot of people are becoming more and more aware of their environment and what ‘going green’ and living sustainably really means. They probably do their recycling, have stopped using plastic bags at the supermarket but maybe want to do more. The eco-village will be a place for them to come and gets their hands dirty and if it’s the sort of life-style they enjoy, they can take away what they’ve learnt and do more at home," Terri said.

The money will be used to fund the site for the eco-village, buy fruit trees, seeds, equipment and animals.

When there are enough members, groups of Green Welly Monsters who live locally to each other will be setup so that anyone who has a balcony, roof terrace or small garden that they can use for some urban farming, will grow some veggies and herbs and be able to trade with others nearby.
