Looking forward to a sizzling summer? Well you won’t get much hotter than a booking at the Grill Restaurant in Bournemouth, which is exactly why Listed Magazine has reviewed it for their restaurant guide.
My partner and I enjoyed a selection of warm garlic flatbreads as a light but tasty appetizer. However, we both knew that the main event was coming next…
The black rock grill concept involves taking a very fine selection of meat and fish cuts, heating a slab of African volcanic rock to 400°C and serving the two together to the customer. The diner then decides exactly how they want their meal cooked, and unsurprisingly, these two diners both plumped for that option.
From a selection of duck breast, tuna mignon and beef fillet or ostrich steak, we both went for the waitress's recommendation of the beef fillet, accompanied by JD Steak Sauce or a delicious Teriyaki, chunky chips and vegetables. As I like my steak slightly better than rare and my partner can't make up her mind on anything, it proved a great success. I savoured a wonderfully lean, bloody steak and Ali cooked every bite differently. Accompanied with a glass of smooth and velvety Malbec, it really was one of those good new experiences.
There really wasn't much room after all that, so we opted to share some 'choc shot pots' for pudding - enjoying a creamy selection of white, milk and dark chocolate shots at a leisurely pace.
The Verve was perfect, good hearty food, lively atmosphere and of course, the excitement of the black rock grill!
