Budapest Spring Music Festival – And more!

Added: (Tue Feb 16 2010)

Pressbox (Press Release) - The Budapest Spring Music Festival kicks off on March 19 and runs all the way to April 4. A lively and fun festival in one of Eastern Europe’s most vibrant cities is a winning combination.

The festival itself incorporates all sorts of music, art, dram and dance with plenty of kids activities that make this a popular trip for young families too. You will want to buy tickets ahead of time, especially if there’s something in particular you want to see but accommodation is usually cheaper than other European destinations and food and drink are also reasonably priced.

The festival itself runs a for a couple weeks so it is very much worth exploring some of Budapest’s surrounding areas whilst also enjoying the vast array of exhibitions on at the festival. Car hire Hungary is usually very cheap and there is plenty of scenery to see just driving around the city. You’re better off not renting from the airport as that’s where car rental prices are most expensive. The most efficient way to rent is to rent from a local office in the city centre. Daily rates will be a lot cheaper, although they may not have the same selection of cars as at the airport.

The Danube bend is just north of Budapest and is a perfect day trip for families and is a popular destination for Budapest locals too. Once there, taking a boat tour will provide some of the most beautiful panoramic scenes, which include the wooded hills of Visegrád and Börzsöny. This is a fairly gentle day trip but if you’re feeling a little more adventurous continue your drive to Lepence-Visegrád. Lepence-Visegrád is home to the famous terraved thermal pools where you can relax and unwind. However, there are more recreational activities for those who feel like it.

Depending on the length of your holiday, Eger is another great day trip destination. Less than a two-hour drive from Budapest Eger is a delightfully tranquil, tourist friendly baroque town full of historic sights and buildings. The Minaret is a definite sightseeing highlight and should be on your list should you make the trip.

The Spring Music Festival is an eclectic exhibition of the arts and is definitely worth the trip all by itself. But Hungary and more specifically Budapest, is full of hidden gems that are beautifully maintained and illustrate Hungary’s varied history perfectly.
