AS ROYAL WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ON CARIBBEAN HOLIDAY CRUISE

Hurricane Gustav Is Churning Through The Western Caribbean

Friday August 29: Norway's King Harold and Queens Sonja are today, celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. The day is spent on a family Caribbean holidays cruise on the Royal Yacht off Croatia.

Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Märtha Louise with their families joined the cruise in the Croatian harbor city of Split on Thursday.

On their 70th birthdays last year the King and Queen invited the family to join them on a cruise for the Caribbean holidays.

- It is very important for us all to be together in this way. To live together with the grandchildren over a longer period is the only way to become better acquainted, the King said.

Speaking to public broadcaster NRK on the eve of their anniversary, King Harold said about his wife: - She has meant everything to me. I was a completely different person when I married her. Among other things I was very shy, but have overcome this with her help.

At the same time, Governor Sonny Perdue declared six Southwest Georgia counties as state disaster areas following flooding and wind damage from Tropical Storm Fay, authorities said.

Baker, Grady, Miller, Thomas, Decatur and Seminole counties along with Southeastern Charlton County as disaster areas Thursday.

“While we are very fortunate to not have witnessed the full extent of Tropical Storm Fay, there has been considerable damage to roads, homes and farmland,” Perdue said in a press release. “Our goal is to assist these counties with state equipment and personnel in order to handle extensive repairs.”

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency is heading up recovery efforts and has representatives in the counties assessing damage and providing assistance, the Governor’s office said Thursday.

In addition, the GEMA has activated the Georgia Emergency Operations Plan, which gives them access to state resources for use in the damaged counties.
Fay flooded much of Florida on a zigzag course before dumping double-digit rain figures throughout Southwest Georgia, killing one and flooding parts of Decatur, Thomas and Grady Counties.

The declaration comes as Hurricane Gustav churns through the Western Caribbean holidays on a path for the Gulf Coast, potentially becoming a rain event for the effected areas.
