easyDNA Announces an Increase in demand for Advanced Forensic DNA testing

Pressbox (Press Release) - An increase in demand for advanced its forensic DNA tests has been reported by DNA testing firm easyDNA.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA 01/09/2009: A significant increase in requirement for its advanced forensic testing services has been experienced by DNA testing specialist easyDNA since the advanced services were introduced earlier in 2009.

Advanced DNA testing services involve the use of state of the art equipment by highly trained DNA specialists to screen DNA samples obtained from non-standard samples in comparison to the more simple techniques that are used on the standard buccal (inside cheek) swabs.

The company already offers forensic DNA testing on non-standard samples such as cigarette butts, toothbrushes and blood or semen stains, but the equipment used is not sensitive enough to extract sufficient DNA from degraded and old samples for proper analysis. For this, state of the art equipment with a high degree of accuracy is needed to enable the laboratory to accurately screen the small amounts of DNA normally available from such samples.

The procedure carried out with respect to advanced DNA forensic services involves an initial discussion with prospective clients, where the various options on how to proceed are discussed. The client is then presented with the alternatives and can make an informed decision on what should be done.

The firm's International Director of Sales and Marketing, Andrew Alexander, made the comment: "The response for our clients to the launch of the advanced DNA forensic testing services has been excellent. Many clients have old or degraded samples, or even very small sample such as a single hair that might be able to be analyzed using our standard equipment. However, there are no guarantees and the tests are destructive, so if it didn't work the client is liable to lose the sample, and with it the only chance of them ever being able to establish a relationship. They therefore prefer to pay the extra to maximize their chances of getting a result."
