Faculty of 1000 (f1000.com) is pleased to announce a milestone in its history: the publication of its 80,000th evaluation. Since its launch in 2002, more than 63,000 separate scientific papers have been evaluated on the site. These have come from over 2,200 different journals, fulfilling Faculty of 1000’s aim to highlight papers on the basis of their inherent scientific merit rather than the journal in which they are published.
The 80,000th evaluation was written by Faculty of 1000 Members Anand Kumar and Olusola Ajilore from the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC). They selected the paper “Interaction between the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTTLPR), stressful life events, and risk of depression: a meta-analysis”, originally published in The Journal of the American Medical Association.
Dr Kumar, Head of Psychiatry at UIC, says, "We are proud to be associated with Faculty of 1000 and to have our review listed as the 80,000th evaluation. F1000 Biology and Medicine provide an important and easily accessible source for key papers in the literature. It's a brilliant resource for our research."
The archive of over 63,000 papers evaluated by F1000 represents the top 2% of the biomedical literature.
