Please ensure your pets travel documents are in order.
During these uncertain times on the Costa del Sol, it is advisable to have a complete pet passport and in particular have the required vaccinations done and the ‘boosters’ on an annual basis.
EliteVet in near Puerto Banus, in San Pedro, Marbella have noticed an increase in the number of clients who are considering returning to the UK and Ireland.
Pet quarantine is very expensive and difficult for those with young families, who have to leave their family pet for the six month period of quarantine.
EliteVet in Marbella, Costa del Sol, advise that is important to know that the time required from the administration of a Rabies vaccine and subsequent blood testing one month later, to the period of permitted travel to the UK and Ireland under the PET travel scheme is six months. This seven month waiting period assumes there is no other delay; as with lost samples, insufficient blood titre in the sample, all of which can add months to the ‘time frame’.
Many clients have opted to kennel their pet in Spain during the waiting period, after which they have their dog or cat couriered back to the UK and Ireland. In such cases EliteVet advise to do a check on both the kennel and the courier; the standard requirements are outlined on the Government web sites.
