Pressbox (Press Release) - THE COMET COMETH

On 4th JULY 2005 Deep impact spacecraft will slam in to the speeding comet ‘Temple 1’, Deep impact will point high precision tracking telescopes at the comet and release washing machine sized impactor into its path , The kamikaze dive punches a crater in the comet the size of a ten storey building , providing valuable data about its interior for the retreating mother-ship to relay back to the earth. Deep impact’s six months cruise to the comet itself is a remarkable piece of remote-controlled navigation, the orbital mechanics involved.

The deep impact program is a good opportunity to do some homework on alternating the orbit of earth threatening asteroid or comet or to open and look inside one of these ancient time capsules
