Travel Magazine Bucking the Trend
St. Augustine, FL: November 30, 2003 - Despite the fact that several publications are streamlining by cutting staff, "American Roads" - the magazine for those who travel the American roads - is bucking the trend by adding staff.
Kathleen Walls, the founder of the popular travel E-zine, has been putting the publication together alone for her experience as a travel writer, photographer, reporter, and author gave her the necessary skills to handle the task - but time did not.
Walls states, "In order to continue providing the high quality magazine maintained in the past, I found that I could no longer go it alone. It's very time consuming to put together a magazine and since American Roads offers a glimpse into everything from small town fairs to big city tours, inns and restaurants, scenic natural attractions and historic landmarks, I knew I needed to bring in someone who could complement my skills and help make this a more comprehensive publication. They'd need to be talented and versatile, able to see and present the lesser-known sites, as well as provide a fresh outlook on well-known attractions. My new staff would also need the drive to succeed - a trait that will bring and keep American Roads on top."
Not an easy bill to fill.
Walls found her solution in Margie K. Tovrea, aka Kristie Leigh Maguire - a voice long-heard in the fiction and romance genres. Maguire's novel, "Emails from the Edge (The Life of an Expatriate Wife)" fits easily into the travel genre and with her husband, Stan, she has already lived the traveling life for the past twenty years, touring the globe as she followed his career.
Tovrea states that: "After my husband came home from his last assignment in Iraq, I begged him to retire from the construction industry. For the past eight years, his work has taken us mainly to the Middle East where I was living with him in Saudi Arabia on 9/11. When I finally made it out and back to the United States, I vowed that I wouldn't return. I felt that the Middle East was no longer safe for Americans. I've finally convinced him not to return either. Joining the staff of American Roads was the perfect solution to his career change for his passion has always been travel and photography. We look forward to joining with Kathleen at American Roads where we can work together on something that we both love doing. It'll be an exciting new venture for us as I will be branching out from writing novels to writing travel articles and he can pursue his first love-photography."
Beginning with the 2004 Winter Issue (release date December 1), Margie K. Tovrea will be the Co-Publisher and Editor in charge of the Western Division. Stan Tovrea will be joining the staff as Photographic Editor.
All of the regular features will continue - including the Vagabond traveler column written by Mary Emma Allen, a noted author, travel writer and columnist. Media releases from around the continent are available along with frequent guest articles.
And in celebration of all the new changes to the magazine the Winter Issue will also offer visitors a chance at winning a Florida vacation - as well as the usual exciting reading and photography.
