The End of the Press Release

Added: (Sun Apr 24 2005)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Does this mean the end is nigh for the good old press release? After reading a many blogs and hearing different PRO's opinions on the future of public relations, it's quite clear that blogging, once it becomes more "mainstream", will play a significant part in communicating businesses to media outlets.

Any business, from the local garden centre to the large financial corporation can run a successful blog. They can post all relevant happenings, appointments, contracts etc on their blog with ease. And the media, if considered newsworthy, can easliy access this source and turn it to print. Journalists are increasing their knowledge on RSS and many are frequent subscribers to RSS aggregators.

So what would this do to the small PR firm? What would they have to do to keep up with this new phenonemon? Well for a start they may have to become "blog experts", and help clients develop their own blog with guidance in what to publish and what not to publish. The writing skills, media knowledge and legal knowledge they posess will help clients communicate the right message.

Also, with podcsting on the increase, this too is another valuable plus point in the favour of this Really Simple Syndication.

So is this the end to the humble press release? Probably not just yet, but PROs will have to move with the times just like our American cousins, or them press releases won't be hitting the mark like they used to.
