Pressbox (Press Release) - NAOMI MILLBANK-SMITH
Fresh from the tropical, palm fringed white-sand beaches of the South Pacific, comes the UK's best kept secret. 21 year old chanteuse Miss Naomi Millbank-Smith emerges from the crystal-clear turquoise waters of The Cook Islands - the serene backdrop for the new series of Channel 4's original and hugely popular reality tv show 'Shipwrecked'. Armed with her charisma, style and natural beauty, Naomi is poised to take our shores by storm.
Although Naomi is about to be swept into the public eye and become the focus of primetime television, life has certainly not been a breeze for this quietly ambitious young professional. Disciplined in the art of performance, Naomi is a well-rounded modern day entertainer who has honed her skills as a singer, dancer and actress over the years, whilst enjoying a modest career as a professional model. From a very young age, Naomi has had a great passion for the performing arts and entertainment. She has always found great pleasure in captivating audiences, whether it be through dance, music or drama. This realisation lead Naomi to follow her dream and pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
The beauty and serenity of the "shipwrecked" islands are a far cry from Naomi's hometown of Leigh-on-Sea, where she now resides with her family. Born in Harrow and raised in Canvey Island, Naomi started her performance training in her teenage years at Star Studios of Perfoming Arts, during which time she performed at numerous festivals and won the acclaimed title of 'All England' tap dancer of the year. She continued to study at Tiffany Stage Academy and was then awarded a full time grant to attend Performers Dance College in Corringham, where she completed her training. During her third and final year at the college, Naomi had the misfortune of fracturing her knee, which meant that she could not attend her final graduation show. Despite all of this, Naomi did not give up on her dream and was back on the stage within six months starring in a local Peterborough production. Since her injury, Naomi has worked tremendously hard to establish a career for herself as an accomplished dancer, distinguished actress and professional model. She has worked on various media campaigns for market leaders such as Coca-Cola and Fairy Liquid, and has been depicted as a character in the new Sony Playstation 'SingStar' game.
Whilst at college, Naomi was discouraged to persue a career as a singer and was told that, because of her wayward behaviour in class, she would never make it in the music industry. This was a devastating blow for Naomi and inevitably knocked her confidence and effected her self-esteem. Indicative of her tenacious character, she would fight back and prove her critics wrong through good ol' fashioned hard work, perserverence and self-belief. Since graduating from college, Naomi has reached musical heights, having shared the stage with US hip-hop luminary Kanye West and featured in pop promos for major label acts such as Robbie Williams and pop/rock band Rooster. Naomi has also attracted the attention of chart-topping record labels Polydor Records (Pussycat Dolls, Girls Aloud and The Spice Girls) and Ministry of Sound (legendary London club and world-renowned independent label behind recent UK chart success 'Put Your Hand Up For Detroit' by Fedde Le Grand), who have both expressed an interest in signing her for their forthcoming pop projects. In the midst of these speculative offers, she has decided to enlist a team of songwriters and producers to work on her solo album project independently. Heavily influenced by contemporary r'n'b and British dance music, Naomi draws inspiration from the vocal proess of celebrated US recording artist Mariah Carey, as well as the commanding performance abilities of pop acts such as The Pussycat Dolls and Christina Aguilera. Her passion for singing and performing, combined with her incredible soulful tone is an an exciting prospect for the music industry in 2007.
Naomi's Shipwrecked experience will capture the hearts of the British public. Her first primetime television appearance will undoubtedly be a memorable one, so we can expect to hear big things from this bright young starlet in the coming months.
Naomi's solo debut single is scheduled for commercial release in the summer of 2007.
