Picmeta Systems has released version 4.1 of its Picture Information Extractor (PIE) which adds support for the Photoshop PSD format and full support for Camera RAW files. PIE is now able to extract metadata (EXIF) inclusive proprietary makernotes of almost any camera. Furthermore, the latest version allows to edit EXIF tags in JPG files. The viewer displays many different file formats, Photoshop PSD and RAW files.
PIE is a picture browser and viewer with well integrated photo metadata and file renaming features. It extracts EXIF from JPG and RAW files and makes it available in a convenient interface.
Based on the metadata PIE automates common tasks like file transfer and rename. Renaming is keyed to the date and time as well as other photo information, controlled by a filename mask which can be customized easily. Photos taken in portrait mode can automatically be rotated (lossless). EXIF tags can be edited, removed and saved as backup. Date and time of photos can be changed in batch mode. With its streamlined concept, PIE is a lean and efficient alternative to many bloated photo applications.
Other products of Picmeta Systems are PrintStation, a tool for fast generating of photo albums and catalogues, and PIE Studio, which combines the metadata features of PIE with the print features of PrintStation.
A free evaluation version of PIE 4.1 is available. The full version costs US$ 29. Licensed users are entitled to lifetime free updates. The software runs on Windows 95,98,ME,2000,XP and Vista.
