New magazine launching for Berkshire families

Added: (Fri Nov 07 2003)

After months of planning and preparation, Berkshire’s County Child, a bi-monthly regional parenting title, is launching in November. Designed for families with children up to the age of 14 years old, the magazine will contain a unique blend of content, ranging from health, travel and cookery features, to celebrity interviews, book reviews and locally relevant articles.

With a thought-provoking, dynamic and informative editorial style, it will speak directly to parents and aim to answer their innermost concerns about family issues. Children will be catered for too, with their own regular pages, book reviews and sections designed for schools.

Spearheading the project is Martine Firth, a mother of two from Ascot, Berkshire. Disappointed not to have found a local publication that fulfilled her needs as a parent, she was spurred on to launch the company, County Child Ltd, and produce Berkshire’s County Child.

“As a mother and resident of Berkshire for the past 10 years, the lack of a focussed and easily obtainable magazine for parents has puzzled me. We want something stylish and informal, something that reaches out to us, something that provides real information, useful local content and a little gossip. Above all, we want something that makes us feel good,” said Martine.

A team of experienced national and local freelance journalists have been recruited, and, together with specialised guest columnists, they’ve have been busy writing content for the last few months.

The magazine will be complemented by a dedicated website featuring all the latest articles, news and reviews. Advertisers will also benefit from an online download facility.

The publication will have an initial print run of 20,000, with 17,000 complimentary copies delivered direct to precisely selected ABC1 Berkshire family households. A further 3,000 copies will be distributed at educational, retail, health and leisure venues frequented by families.
