Pressbox (Press Release) -
IAN HUNTLEY AND THE SECRET TAPES
HUMBERSIDE POLICE is about to face strong criticism following the decision by the Crown Prosecution Service not to prosecute Ian Huntley over the allegation that he attacked and indecently assaulted 11-year-old Hailey Edwards in 1997.
Hailey, now aged 19 and married, successfully persuaded the force to carry out a second investigation into her case only to be informed – by telephone – that in their opinion not enough evidence had come to light to justify a prosecution.
Having now received written confirmation of the news and having taken advice from her lawyer, Hailey has decided to launch a private prosecution against Huntley.
As part of her case, Hailey will produce secret tape recordings of conversations with Humberside Police officers that, she claims, contain a number of contradictory remarks and which question the thoroughness of the investigation. These tapes also include details of Huntley’s response to the allegations.
Hailey will claim that during their 12-month-long investigation, police officers chose not to interview a number of people who she believes should be spoken to about the events leading up to the alleged assault.
She will also produce documentation to show how the Police attempted to gag her at the start of the investigation.
If you wish to pursue this story further, with interview and pictures of Hailey, please contact in the first instance her media agent, Mike Stathers, outlining details of how you wish to approach the subject.
