Pressbox (Press Release) - Portland, Oregon, January 20, 2012 - The senior writer on the HDMI Over Coax website today announced the release of a new publication which is entitled, “What You Should Know About HDMI vs DVI Cables”. The new article covers the basic differences which people should learn in order to go from a total novice to being able to identify a connector cable with confidence.

HDTV is an extremely widespread technology which people use for video viewing every day. There are hundreds if not thousands of manufactures which produce television screens that support this technology. However, as good as HDTV may be, the product has yet to monopolize the market to any major extent. There are still many screens manufactured today which run on older technologies such as DVI which is also known as Digital Video Interface.

As a result of the co-existence of these two technologies, solutions had to be created so that consumers could interconnect any two devices. According to the senior researcher on the HDMI vs DVI website, DVI was created as the industry standard. It was chosen because of its ability to display high quality pictures on digital screens and was considered an advancement over the traditional VGA technology which relied on the old fashioned picture tube. LCD flat screen display televisions also relied on the DVI technology to produce high quality pictures.

The main selling point of the DVI technology was that it allowed the transmission of digital signals which is what it was designed to do. However, only digital signals can be transmitted using DVI technology. People are required to find an audio signal carrier which means a separate audio interface for the audio portion of the signal.

HDMI is also known as High Definition Multimedia Interface and its development created the next big advancement over DVI. HDMI is a multi-media interface which allows the transference of both a video signal and an audio signal. The creation of HDMI allows a lot of flexibility in the kind of devices that can use this cable to transmit information.
